Feature 01-2 Gibson Collection #1106

Unknown Germanic Military Hirschfanger

This unknown Hirschfanger is almost certainly military. The German state of origin is unknown. The construction is very unusual with the hilt being made all in one casting, including the attachment loops and the shell guard. The spring in this example is broken, but originally continued up and made a sort of cockscomb on top of the pommel. You can see a complete example of this in Klaus Lubbe's new book #23.
