This is an interesting example of a hunting or shooting club bayonet. It features a brass hilt with a separate straight cross guard. The forward attachment loop is braised to the hilt. The rear loop is screwed to the pommel. The blade is one of type called Montmorency blades. They were made in Solingen and fitted to hunting swords in the 18th century. The engraving on the blade is typical of this type. I had a difficult time getting the engraving to show in a photo, but I have included the typical boar. It looks quite cartoonish. There is also an arrow that is usually found on the back edge of the blade. I have a plug bayonet fitted with another Montmorency blade. I think that the blade almost certainly predates the hilt fittings. I suspect that the owner had his father's hunting sword blade rehilted as a bayonet in the mid to early 19th century.

Dimensions are as follows: Overall length 746mm; Blade length 623; Blade width 37; Blade thickness 9; Handle length 123.
